Drama Club - all modules

Ludico Theatre is excited to announce the launch of our new Drama Club starting in the fall of 2024! This club is designed for anyone passionate about theatre and eager to explore the world of drama, whether you're a beginner or have some experience.

What is the Drama Club?

The Drama Club is a creative community where participants can immerse themselves in all aspects of theatre. Our journey begins with preparing our bodies, fostering trust, and building self-confidence. In Module 2, we'll explore the "3 P's of a scene: People, Place, and Problem." Module 3 will focus on our most important instrument - our body, and how to communicate without words. Module 4 will involve working with text, and finally, in Module 5, we'll create small scenes and potentially perform them for a small audience.

Module 1 - (Tuesdays at FO) 20/08 - 27/08 - 03/09 - Preparation - The first module of our Drama Club is designed to lay the foundation for a successful theater experience, preparing participants both mentally and physically. The focus is on building self-confidence, fostering trust, and developing a deeper understanding of the space, other participants, and themselves.

Teacher: Juliana Appel

Module 2 - (Tuesdays at FO) 10/09 - 17/09 - 24/09 - Setting the Scene: People, Place, Problem - For 3 weeks we will dive deep into one of the “3 P’s of a Scene: People, Place, and Problem”. “People” focuses on character development, status & relationships, and classic character archetypes. “Place” explores spatial awareness, object work, and using the imaginary environment as inspiration. “Problem” emphasizes scene structure, objectives & obstacles, and the journey of conflict resolution.

Teacher: Will Hightower

Module 3 - (Tuesdays at FO) 01 - 08 - 15/10 - Non-Verbal Communication - Explore the body’s expressive potential. We will engage in exercises focusing on attention, listening, rhythm, and connection to overcome fears and language barriers. In a supportive, judgment-free atmosphere, the participants will learn to let go, embrace vulnerabilities, and connect with others through physical expression. The module will end with the playful and transformative experience of the red nose, allowing participants to explore character and emotion in new, liberating ways.

Teacher: Marika Rocca

Module 4 - (Tuesdays at FO) 22/10 - 29/10 - 05/11 - Scene Study - Prepare for a dynamic combination of practical exercises, scene work, and script analysis. Participants will sharpen their skills in interpreting, understanding, and embodying characters from contemporary dramatic texts. Outside of class, students will be expected to engage in script analysis and rehearsal to fully prepare for their final presentations.

Teacher: Will Hightower

Module 5 - (Mondays at Turkis) 11/11 - 18/11 - 25/11 - 02/12 - Devising and presentation - In this module, you will be ready to apply all skills you got from the previous module. We are going to connect text and bodywork and create small scenes to be performed on the last day of the workshop.

Teachers: Juliana Appel and Ana Luiza Ulsig

But this is not all… In January, we'll continue with Theatre Production.

About the teachers:

Juliana Appel is a Brazilian actress and storyteller, with more than 20 years of experience in Art/Drama education. She graduated in Fine Art in 2001 and became a Specialist in Art Education. In 2011 she came to Copenhagen where she trained in physical theatre at the International Commedia School. She is enrolled in the fourth year of education at the Feldenkrais Institute in Vienna. In Aarhus, she co-founded Ludico Theatre and worked there both as an actress and with workshops focusing on body language, especially presence and awareness.

William Hightower is an American performer, director, and teaching artist who has recently relocated to Aarhus. William is a graduate of Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts and has 15+ years of experience performing for the stage and screen, teaching acting, directing improvisation, facilitating arts programs, narrating audiobooks, and developing immersive performances for audiences.

Marika Rocca is trained as a medical clown by the "Associazione Veronica Sacchi" (Milan, Italy) and "Humanitarian Clowns" (Melbourne, Australia). She has worked as a medical clown in Italy, Australia, and New Zealand, visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and centers for people with mental disabilities, and has undertaken humanitarian trips to Morocco, Albania, India, and Argentina. Marika studied clowning and mime at "Campo teatrale" in Milan, under Antonio Brugnano, who uses Jacques Lecoq’s methodology. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Brera Academy of Milan and has over ten years of experience in body language and physical movement. Currently, she is a yoga instructor in Aarhus, focusing on incorporating playfulness into yoga practice.

Ana Luiza Ulsig is a self-produced actress, theatre creator, and facilitator with more than 15 years of professional experience. Since 2007, she has created and co-created theatre performances with partners in Denmark, Brazil and England. Her master’s thesis on “How to create art from autobiographical material” has led to mentoring actors and other interested people in developing their own artistic projects. This interest and passion have been increasing over the past years, and Ana has been expanding her projects as a facilitator and co-creator.
